GROUPI for GPS

On the basis of scanned maps the software „Groupi for GPS“ can be used for routes and waypoints for your GPS mobile receiver. For this purpose the scanned map is calibrated. You click in the map to get coordinates for routes and points of interest which then can be converted by help of the freeware EasyGPS to all common GPS receivers.

Functions in detail

Routes and points of interest can be produced through clicks in the map. According to the maximum memory capacity of the GPS receiver all data can be converted on the receiver. The scanned map cannot be converted.
The map can be printed true to scale with the graphic presentations of the routes and points of interest.
Route and area calculations can be done and results can be printed.
All routes and points of interest can be individually named.
The routes can always be changed later. Waypoints can be deleted, changed or added to a route.
For calibration of the maps geografic, Gauß-Krüger, Swiss or UTM coordinates can be used.
The calibration can always be changed. Altered calibration results cause a new calculation of all given routes and points of interest.
The map datum are supported by over 80 countries for the geographic coordinates.
Depiction of tracks, routes and points of interest in the map which were in advance read from your GPS receiver or with help of a different software (Google Earth, Touratech, QuoVadis, Waypoiint+, G7ToWin, TOP50).
Manual input of known coordinates in the geographic or UTM system. This function is for friends of geocaching. The inserted points are presented on the map and can be converted on a GPS receiver. Adequate points can be found e.g. on the website geocaching.de.
Changing geographic coordinates in plain Gauß-Krüger or UTM coordinates and vise versa.
The software is intuitively usable, functions world-wide and has a German help function sorted according to keywords.
Some parts of the software described with the help of screenshots follow:

The headline indicates the present working mode and the file name of the opened map. By menu bar all functions can be activated, nearly all functions can be activated with help of the symbols in the "toolbar". The meaning of the symbol is explained when keeping the mouse about 2 sec. on the symbol. Underneath the toolbar the present scale (depending on the zoom installation) is shown.

During the workout of a route the number of points which still can be activated for that route are indicated beneath the map until the maximum memory capacity of the GPS receiver is reached. Then the workout of the route is automatically finished. You then have to start with a new route. Thus it is ensured that afterwards all data can be converted to the GPS receiver.

Beneath the map the length of the partial distance as well as the present total distance are indicated while building up a route.

The coordinates of the mouse indicator are shown on the left bottom of the map. In our example these are geographic coordinates in decimal steps.

Each waypoint or point of interest can be individually named. You have to take care of the maximum number of symbols your GPS receiver can save. The GPS receiver saves and identifies a named point accordingly. Unnamed points are registered in your GPS receiver with the automatically given point number.

Each route can be named individually. You have to consider the maximum number of symbols your GPS receiver can save. Afterwards a named route will be saved and identified with this name in your GPS receiver. Unnamed routes are registered in your GPS receiver under the automatically given route number. A name should be an abbreviation of start and end of the route.

Distance lengths of all partial distances, total lengths of the routes, names of the routes and names of single points are summarized in a list. You can activate the list (left part) by a right mouse click in the map and can print it as well. A click on the route in the graphic activates the total length of this route (right part). The result can be printed together with the adequate graphic (marked route).

The coordinates of the passpoints are as well summarized in a list. Here are shown the screen coordinates together with the adequate inserted coordinates. This list serves as a control of the data for the user and for changes. Click on the adequate line for changes.
